The Details

Tasting Note This wine is pale lemon in colour with fragrant aromas of honeysuckle, peach, apricots and spices. The palate displays white peaches along with subtle nutty characters, hints of citrus and has a creamy texture with a crisp and refreshing finish.
Best Enjoyed With Pairs well with a variety of dishes - especially lightly spiced Asian influenced cuisine.
Treatment Made from grapes sourced from both Wairau and Awatere Valley vineyards, the fruit was harvested in the cool of the morning and pressed using a long slow cycle. A cool tank fermentation followed, using an aromatic yeast. After a short period on yeast lees the wine was clarified and filtered prior to bottling.

The Story

Meaning “Smoky River” in Maori, the Opawa River historically began in the current Opawa vineyard owned by Nautilus Estate of Marlborough. The riverbed gravels formed the stony soils, which absorb the sun’s warmth during the day and radiate it back onto the grapes at night, evolving the delicious aromas and flavours in these wines. Today the lower Opawa River is the habitat for various endangered and endemic New Zealand birdlife and Opawa wines are committed to preserving this wetland ecosystem and its inhabitants.
