The Details

Tasting Note Pale gold with slight green-gold tints. Complex aromas of citrus curd, stone fruit and fresh figs with notes of struck flint, brioche and a hint of spicy French oak. The palate is layered and complex. Flavours of fresh peach compote, citrus zest and roasted hazelnuts are underpinned by a fine creamy texture and flinty bottle complexity.
Best Enjoyed With A lovely accompaniment to pan-seared scallops with pea puree and crispy pancetta or potatoes au gratin.
Treatment Length and line define Heggies Reserve Chardonnay. A finer wine in its youth, gaining more depth and complexity as it ages in the bottle. Released with bottle age greater than 12 months to show the evolution of great Chardonnay. Fermented and matured in French oak barriques and hogsheads (35% new, 45% one year old, 20% two to four years old).

The Story

The Reserve Chardonnay is selected from the most unique site on the vineyard - ‘I’ block, which has a westerly aspect overlooking the Heggies Lake. Westerly breezes have a cooling influence as they move across the water. A gently sloping block with skeletal soils at the top and deeper at the lake end. This site was planted in 1992 with three exceptional Bernard Clones 76, 95 and 96.

Accolades

95 Points Halliday Wine Companion
It's pleasing to have some shape here. It's still tight, but there's fruit flavour. Splashes of lemon, mandarin peel and a dash of ginger spice. It's delicately floral, too. Oak is seamlessly integrated, with enough funky sulphides to warrant a disco move.

94 Points James Suckling
This has a flinty edge and a savory, hazelnut thread with wet stones and a struck-match edge to the white peach and grapefruit. The palate has a juicy and succulent feel, full of energy and concentrated peach and grapefruit flavors. Long and fresh. Hazelnut finish. Drink or hold.
