Riesling 2020

Riesling 2020

The small block of mature Riesling vines, hiding in the rather larger plantings of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, was an irresistible temptation to work with. Having tasted and admired Tassie Riesling for many years, the opportunity to make one had to be, well, destiny.

The Details

Tasting Note The Parish Vineyard Riesling is defined by a long, taut spine of slaty acidity, balanced by textured complexity, with flavours of a wild cottage garden - camomile, feijoa, dried lavender, juniper and grapefruit with aromas of tea rose, cumquat and ocean spray.
Best Enjoyed With It’s hard to see past the perfect food match of freshly shucked Tasmanian oysters, although fried halloumi or fish and chips with tartar sauce pair well too. For something a little different, try with a salad of ancient grains, saltbush and pomegranate.
Treatment Our Riesling is handpicked from part of a small 3-hectare block of mature vines and crafted by Riesling expert Louisa Rose. The vines enjoyed a long ripening season that helped the grapes reach optimum ripeness without compromising grape quality.

The Story

Just 30kms northeast of Hobart in the Coal River Valley, a unique site was discovered. Sitting below the imposing Mount Lord, with views over Pitt Water the property is beautiful and rugged. Proprietor Robert Hill-Smith and Winemaker Louisa Rose, intrinsically linked with Eden Valley Riesling, had tasted and talked about Tasmanian Riesling on many occasions over many years. They were enthralled by the bracing steely backbone of these wines, which reminded them of the cool and wild climate of the Tasmanian Coast.
