The Details

Tasting Note Pale straw with green hues. Intense aromas of fine dried herbs, white flowers, lemons, lime and a hint of pineapple. A long, rich palate reminiscent of grapefruit, lime and fresh rosemary. The wine finishes with soft natural acidity that balances the flavour and minerality that is delicious now or will reward medium to long-term cellaring.
Best Enjoyed With Enjoy with fresh oysters, seared scallops, salt and pepper squid, Thai beef salad, or a tomato salad with pickled walnuts and fresh basil.
Treatment Above average winter and spring rains filled the soils and dams. This cool, wet weather delayed vine growth and budburst by three weeks. The mild conditions continued combined with wet, windy weather just as the vines flowered, giving a lower set than usual. The vines ripened their smaller crop in perfect, mild conditions The resulting grapes were full of flavour with beautiful natural acidity.

Accolades

Delicate and fresh
Palish colour and a yeasty, freshly fermented kind of aroma, floral nuances hiding in the background. It's delicate and fresh, youthful and light, with moderate length and soft but dry mouth-feel. It's straightforward now and will no doubt repay a little cellar time.
Huon Hooke

Year after year it delivers
Damn, this is a great Riesling. Year after year it delivers and once again it proves that Riesling is one of the best value wines you will find in Australia. Track this down for a glass of lemony delish. Almost clear in appearance, it's loaded with lemon juice and zest. A minerally drive sits at the core with Jasmine flower aromas heightening the experience. A little fleshy stonefruit makes a fleeting appearance in the mid-palate with green apple bunkering down. Some tension tightens things up with a talc finish to entice you back for more. Rieslings like this scream 'Come at me summer'. It's best you take up the invitation. Drink to five years+

Excellent citrussy intensity
Name me a better, widely available white wine in Australia. Yeah, I’ll wait. Pewsey Vale Riesling is especially consistent too – every vintage, it’s just bloody good. And seriously intense. This Pewsey Vale Riesling 2023 is a steely powerhouse too. It’s a backward, and aloof vintage, but with such concentration, this year leaning from the usual lime and into more grapefruit and lemongrass. Excellent citrussy intensity – it’s so varietal with the most hardcore acidity. Man, all that drive and you can still buy it retail for circa $20? Unbeatable.

A very strong vintage
This piercing vintage of 2023 Eden Valley Riesling delivers a concentrated core of Rose’s Lime and bath salt aromas, with exotic florals adding an attractive touch. Dry, bright and stony, its slinky lightweight style and embryonic flavours still in their shell bode well for the future, as does a long, meandering finely balanced citrus accented finish. A very strong vintage and exceptional value.

Consistently good
The original Pewsey Vale vineyard was planted in 1847 and the label is part of the Hill Smith Family Vineyards (also well known for Yalumba). Chief winemaker Louisa Rose’s signature appears on the rear label to show the importance of this brand. While the IRB scale that shows this wine to be just between dry and medium. Pale hue with straw highlights. Sweet yellow apple flesh and blossom with a hint of sliced lemongrass spice, dried kitchen herbs, lemon/lime citrus skin and a suggestion of richer (fresh) pineapple. Expressive with good fruit weight but shows care with well etched detail. Long flavour tail with juicy and refreshing acidity and fine talc finish. Consistently good.
