The Details

Tasting Note Dark, plum red in colour. Ripe plum and cedar aromas combine with an inviting, exotic perfume of cinnamon and clove, blended with blue fruits. Bursting with plum, blackberry, briar and cedar flavours, the palate evolves into enticing savoury notes from the French oak. The lovely natural acidity combines well with the expressive fruit and tannins, keeping the wine enticing and structural.
Best Enjoyed With Try matching with char-grilled lamb chops or veggie burgers with pomegranate ketchup.
Treatment The art in Merlot winemaking is avoiding over-extraction of the tannins from the fruit and seeds. Our wines are made in static fermenters and we continually taste the developing wine and press the skins when there is structure and weight without tannic hardness. In the pursuit of soft tannins, we are judicious in our oak selection and moderate with its use.

Accolades

Wow
Wow. Here is a Merlot from Wrattonbully that offers so much for this price. The aromas of red currant and subtle cool mint merge with cedary perfumed notes. It’s delightfully fragrant with beautiful exotic violet notes. The palate displays firmish tannins and gentle oak infusion to support the medium body. Finishes with a fine chalky minerality. You don’t often get Merlot of this quality for this price.

Fleshy and bright
Deep garnet with a bright rim. Soaking aromas of blackberries in juice, plum flesh, cedar, choc-mint biscuit, woody clove and a red currant edge. Fleshy and bright, perky even. Tannins are blousy and soft with just enough chew under the red/black body. There’s a prickle of heat before a savoury dark tail. Serve with smash burgers (soft white buns) or BBQ Pork ribs (where you get the sauce all over your face).
