Three Days in North East Tasmania

The north east corner of Tasmania has so much to offer. Not only is it home to our Jansz Tasmania vineyard, it is also home to world-famous golf courses, picturesque waterfalls, fields of lavender and mountain bike trails that are sure to get your heart pumping. Summer is the perfect time to visit us - you'll enjoy cool mornings, perfect for a waterfall hike or mountain biking, followed by sunny afternoons to settle in and enjoy the peace and quiet over a glass of wine.

25 Oct 2021

Day One

Heading off from Launceston, make your way through the northeast countryside to Pipers Brook where you will find the Jansz Tasmania Wine Room. Enjoy a stroll around the lake and gardens before our team guides you through a curated tasting of the Jansz Tasmania collection. Following your wine tasting, enjoy a local Tasmanian cheese platter in the Wine Room or find a sunny spot in our garden.

After your Wine Room experience (make sure you have a designated driver!) head to the beautiful Bridestowe Lavender Estate. The largest lavender farm in the Southern Hemisphere, the Bristestowe Lavender Estate is particularly popular during the summertime when the lavender is in bloom. Visit the onsite café for a scoop of the famous lavender ice cream before taking some time to wander through the fields.

Continue your journey through to Bridport. A popular seaside town, Bridport overlooks Anderson Bay and is surrounded by beautiful beaches and reserves. Just a 5-minute drive from Bridport is the world-famous Barnbougle Golf Links. Home to two top-rated golf courses, Barnbougle is heaven for the avid golfer. For the non-golfer, enjoy an onsite treatment at Spa 180 or wine and dine in the Lost Farm Restaurant.

Day Two

Start the day with a walk along the beach in Bridport and breakfast at The Bridport Café, then pack up the gear and head to the little town of Derby.

Once a mining town, Derby is now home to the world-famous Blue Derby mountain bike trails which twist and turn through the temperate rainforests of the area. There are a range of different trails to explore which have been created to suit all mountain biking abilities - from the beginner to the expert rider.

After your mountain biking experience, book a spot at the picturesque Floating Sauna located on the banks of the lake at Derby. Enjoy the warmth of the sauna before plunging into the icy cold lake for the ultimate post-ride recovery.

Stay the night at the River Cabins Derby.

Day Three

Start the day with a coffee and breakfast at Two Doors Down Café in Derby before setting off for a day of waterfalls and walks!

A short drive from Derby you will find the impressive Mount Paris Dam. Built by hand, it was completed in 1936 for Mount Paris Tin Mines Ltd. The dam stands 16 metres high and is surrounded by lush green ferns. In 1985, a hole was blasted through the wall to once again allow for the natural flow of the Cascade River.

A 40-minute drive south east through the pretty farmland of north east Tasmania and you will find the impressive St Columba Falls. One of Tasmania’s tallest waterfalls, St Columba Falls can be accessed via a 30-minute return walk through tranquil rainforest. At the base of the waterfall, you will find a large viewing platform where you can look up to see 90 metres of gushing water cascading over the rock face.

Following your visit to St Columba Falls, stop in The Pub in the Paddock for a hearty meal with views across the countryside.

A short drive from Pyengana and you will be treated to another picturesque waterfall. Halls Falls is a tranquil waterfall surrounded by lush forest with charming rock pools to explore. The walk into the falls takes around 30 minutes each way.

After exploring Halls Falls, hit the road and continue driving through to the picturesque east coast of Tasmania. There's so much more to explore!
